LANGUAGE FOCUS: Verbs should / ought to
AIMS : by the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1. Give advice for different situations
2. Use the structures should / ought to
3. Put the sentences in the correct order to summarise a dialogue
AIDS : textbook, chalk, blackboard, posters
WARMING – UP : T greets the students and asks them how are they feeling, checks homework and asks students to correct their mistakes.
ACTIVITY 1 :
AIMS : to introduce the students into the new topic, talk about favourite food, introduce the new structure
INTERACTION : T – S
PROCEDURES ; Teacher begins the activity asking the students some questions like : Why are people vegetarian? Is anyone in your class vegetarian? What do they eat? Do you agree with them? Then the teacher shows the students a poster with the title “Fire Safety†and introduce the new topic : should / shouldn’t
T asks students to give at least two pieces of advice to his / her deskmate using should / ought to, shouldn’t / ought not to.
ACTIVITY 2 :
AIMS : to develop reading skills,to be able to summarise a dialogue
INTERACTION : S – S / T- S
PROCEDURES : T asks the students to read a dialogue on roles (playing/acting the roles in the lesson “You ought to try themâ€). After that the teacher asks some questions about the dialogue to check the comprehension of the text.
Students are asked to put the sentences in the correct order to summarise the dialogue (ex.2 a /49 ).
ACTIVITY 3 :
AIMS: to use the new structures to give advice or make strong suggestion.
PROCEDURES : T gives the students some worksheets and asks them to give advice for certain situations using shouldn’t and ought to .
After solving students are asked to read their answers aloud .
HOMEWORK : T gives the students to complete the “Health watch†with should / shouldn’t or ought / ought not . (ex.3 page 47)
